Serguei Prokofiev 33
The internationally celebrated Spanish artist Jaume Plensa has been exhibited several times in the "Blickachsen" series. A leitmotif for his work is a phrase by William Blake: "One thought fills immensity". The written word as material is an important element in Plensa's work. It is a body of work which has a lasting effect on the imagination. Plensa's aim is the poetic intensification and intellectual investigation of space. In "Blickachsen 7" Plensa is represented by three works. The five-metre high steel figure "Nosotros" (We) made up of delicate letters, stands, as it were, as a monument to the people of the world between the historic monuments to the Kaiser and his wife on the Schmuckplatz. At night the illuminated figure seems to be lit up from inside. The painted aluminium figure "Serguei Prokofiev", inscribed with the names of famous musicians, is one of the works that Plensa describes as "receptacles for the soul". He says the same of the bronze figure "Alchemy", installed in the Orangerie garden of the castle: from the interior of this figure, inscribed with the names of writers, there grows a plant – as the material form of ideas and knowledge.
