David Horvitz
(USA) * in California
With philosophical astuteness, David Horvitz’s artistic work addresses networks, language and time systems. His oeuvre includes photography and artist‘s books as well as installations, mail art and Fluxus-inspired actions. Horvitz often incorporates local conditions into his works. To Blickachsen 14 also, he contributes a site-specific work: with “All the Crows of Bad Homburg”, the artist declares all the crows in town to be living sculptures for the duration of the exhibition. A handwritten note by the artist, which can be seen on a display board in the Kurpark, expresses this. Horvitz thus creates the framework for an unusual experience – viewing birds as art and seeing sculptures fly. In addition, the artist has produced T-shirts with the inscription “I Feed Crows”, which are handed out to a group of children. The shirts mark their wearers as custodians of the living artworks and at the same time promote the breaking of the rule in public parks not to feed unwelcome birds.
David Horvitz studied at the University of California, Waseda University in Tokyo and Bard College in New York. His work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in renowned collections in Europe and North America.
