In addition to sculpture, Arik Levy’s multidisciplinary creative work also encompasses photography, design, graphic art, stage design and video. As a sculptor, Levy is firmly established in the international art scene with his striking “Rock” pieces. He develops their richness of form, the diversity of materials used as well as the possibilities offered by their surfaces in various work series. Their serial character resembles musical variations on a theme, while the sculptures in the public space always seem location-specific and at the same time universal. This is also true of the two steel “RockGates”, which Levy created for Blickachsen 13. In their basic forms, the two pairs of sculptures are similar, even though their dimensions, the design of their faceted surfaces and the distances between the two elements vary. But in the working of their steel surfaces they differ drastically: on one hand the reflective outer skin mirrors the surrounding nature and the observers between the gate’s pillars, while on the other, the delicate velvety rust of the corten steel has a positively sensual quality.
Arik Levy studied at the Swiss Art Center College of Design, he has created numerous installations for the public space and has taken part in many exhibitions around the world.
