Climate Changing Room I-V (Panels 30-34) 13
In a play of words, Kasia Fudakowski combines the English terms for ‘climate change‘ and ‘changing room‘ in the title of her work “Climate Changing Room”. Contrary to what the title suggests, the filigree room divider made of green-painted steel arches offers only minimal privacy. Only a few movable leaves promise the possibility of concealing tiny parts of the body. They allude to the metaphorical as well as the art-historical significance of the fig leaf. This playfully humorous aspect contrasts sharply with the sombre undertone of the reference to global warming in the title. The five elements of “Climate Changing Room” are part of the long-term work “Continuouslessness”, which is based on a modular system of interconnectable elements. This occupies a central position in Fudakowski‘s artistic work, which includes sculpture and installation as well as writing, film and performance. Intellectual and sculptural strategies for turning entrenched norms into the comical and absurd are also a recurring feature of the artist‘s oeuvre.
Kasia Fudakowski studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art at the University of Oxford and has shown her work internationally in solo and group exhibitions.
