Aldi Süd

Aldi Süd 30

In her works, Ina Weber concerns herself in a variety of ways with the built everyday world of cities. She creates lightly distorted architectonic sculptures, which with their small and at times singular changes of scale, open a new perspective on street furniture, institutional buildings or apartment blocks. Neither realistic replicas of the originals, nor actual models for something to be created, her sculptures are, rather, an expression of her own highly distinctive artistic take on the world. In addition to her sculptural works, Weber also addresses these themes in her watercolours. She finds her ideas when she’s out and about, traveling or in everyday life. Many of her motifs are photographed, captured in sketches, or just held in her memory, but: “For me it is never a question of reproducing reality.” In Blickachsen 13, with her “Aldi Süd” (Aldi South), Weber has placed a discounter on a green meadow in the Kurpark, with its inevitable car park next to it on the concrete pedestal. In its miniaturisation, the concrete supermarket seems as twee as it does threatening, as original as it is uniform.
Ina Weber studied fine arts at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and since 2016 has taught at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
