One of the most significant sculpture and botanic experiences in the United States, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park welcomes more than a half-million visitors annually. Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan midway between Chicago and Detroit, this vibrant cultural organization is among the most unique in the nation. The internationally acclaimed permanent collection features masterworks from Rodin to Moore, Calder to Oldenburg, Abakanowicz to Bourgeois, Nash to Plensa among others. Sculptures are featured across the campus, but the greatest concentration of work is sited specifically in the 35-acre Sculpture Park.

In addition, Meijer Gardens annually hosts an series of high profile exhibitions in a suite of galleries built specifically for the display of sculpture. Recent exhibitions ranging from di Suvero to Degas, Borofsky to Goldsworthy have been featured. This year, exhibitions of Calder (June-Sept), Chadwick and Moore (October-Jan), and a Michele Oka Doner retropsective (Jan-May) are planned.

The entire campus of Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park streches across 132-acres featuring formal gardens, vast wetlands and areas of native vegetation. Meijer Gardens hosts Michigan’s largest tropical conservatory; one of the largest children’s gardens in the country, arid and Victorian gardens, a carnivorous plant house, outdoor gardens, and a 1750-seat outdoor amphitheater, featuring an eclectic mix of world renowned musicians every summer. Annual horticulture exhibitions include ColorFall (Sept-Oct), Christmas and Holiday Traditions Around the World (Nov-Dec), Butterflies Are Blooming (Mar-Apr), and a variety of weekend plant shows (eg. rose, dahlia, bonesai).

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture park is honored to have been selected to work in partnership on the biennial exhibition, Blickachsen 7. The sympathy for important works of sculpture featured in natural settings is the signature of this significant and most handsome exhibition; it is in complete sympathy with the mission and goals of Meijer Gardens which brings audiences from around the world in contact with sculpture and horticulture, nature and the arts. Carefully selected works by established and emerging sculptors meticulously sited in the castle grounds and kurpark make for one of the defining and most rewarding cultural experiences of the year.
