Donnerstags ist alles gut

Donnerstags ist alles gut 31

Wolfgang Winter and Berthold Hörbelt have worked together since 1992. They often use everyday products such as coiled springs or the tail lights of cars in their interactive sculptures. Early on, they discovered the constructional and aesthetic qualities of industrially-produced bottle crates for their works: the crates can be stacked and joined together, they are weatherproof, in their own way translucent and – used as architectonic material – they form an elegant ribbed structure. From them, the two artists have already built their walk-in “crate houses” – sculptures serving as public meeting places – at the Venice Biennale and many other locations in Europe, Asia and the USA. For Blickachsen 12, Winter/Hoerbelt have designed a giant eleven-metre long tube made of 900 yellow water crates, accentuating Lenné’s historical sight line from the Bad Homburg Kurhaus to the Kurpark pond and its fountain. This work, entitled “Donnerstags ist alles gut” (Everything is fine on Thursdays), is both a meeting and resting place, as well as a place in which to simply enjoy the view. In the sunshine, the crates reveal an unexpected beauty, as they absorb the light and filter it into tiny points of shining colour.
