Leunora Salihu is represented at Blickachsen 12 by two works. After her studies in Pristina and Kiel, Salihu studied sculpture as a master student under Tony Cragg at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where she quickly developed her own artistic profile. Today, this winner of the Lothar-Fischer prize teaches at the university of Gießen. With her sculptures and modular spatial figures, Salihu investigates architectonic principles of form and the expressive possibilities of different materials. At the same time, she is concerned with the notion of movement in static objects: “I look for something timeless in form and material, coupled with time-related aspects of movement. I am attracted by the idea of condensing these opposites into a clear image”, explains Salihu. Thus her elegant “Bogen” (Arch), consisting of a large number of small joined-together discs, seems to have a moving surface structure. Furthermore, the narrow curve of its arch brings to mind the mobility of a metal strip manufactured from countless small links. Her oval, tube-shaped “Urraum” (Primal space) by contrast, presents a dynamic tension between the visible structural modules on the outside and its inner skin – and seems as if it would rock back and forth if one stepped into it.
