Rainer Fetting

(Germany) *1949 in Wilhelmshaven

Fetting belongs to the so-called “New Wilds”, a figurative and expressive artistic movement of the early 1980s. After qualifying as carpenter and set-designer, he attended the Academy of Arts in Berlin. Fetting’s colour schemes and painting methods are influenced by the expressionist tradition of the Brücke-painters; thematically, the Berlin cityscape and the male nude are dominant features of his work. Towards the end of the eighties, Fetting created painted bronze sculptures and large-scale paintings. His sculpture of Willy Brandt created in 1996 for the headquarters of the Social Democratic Party in Berlin earned him great recognition.
